Choose the Best Format for Panoramic Prints
Panoramic photos have an aspect ratio of 2:1 or larger, which means that the image is at least twice as wide as it is high. To get your photo printed, you’ll need to find a print provider that sells panoramic formats in an aspect ratio similar to that of the image.
You can check out our full list of panoramic canvas formats here. Note: most of our prints come with the option of a special additional Premium Frame, but this isn’t available for some of our very biggest formats, so check the list to make sure.
The Golden Rule of Wall Art Size
The golden rule here is: the bigger the canvas print, the bigger the impact. In a decent-sized room, large panoramic canvas art can be an absolute knockout. For example, our largest panoramic format is a positively majestic 60" x 30”. Invest in a showstopper like that and you’ll have a ready-made statement piece!
By contrast, in a more confined space, the same size format can crowd out the rest of the decor and feel a bit overpowering. Luckily, panoramic prints are available in smaller sizes too.
4 Steps to the Ideal Canvas Size
So exactly which format is the right one for you? Of course, you’ll need to trust your instinct here to a degree. But following these 4 steps will help you out:
-
Think about the size of the room. You’ll want to consider the volume of the room, not just the square footage of wall space. A room is a three-dimensional space after all!
-
Size up the piece of bare wall where your print will hang. Think about how big a print the space can accommodate without feeling cluttered.
-
Pay attention to the furniture and fittings. Displaying your print above a bed, couch or fireplace can bring wonderfully striking results if you get the size and positioning right.
-
Give your prints some room to breathe. How much distance will be left between your print and surrounding features (the ceiling, doors, wall fittings, etc)? We recommend leaving a gap of at least 6 inches.
Another thing to bear in mind: panoramic prints can distract attention from smaller decor items on the same wall, so if you’re getting your photo printed in a panoramic format it’s best to display it as a stand-alone piece.
Preview Your Canvas Before Ordering
You can get a sense of how your panoramic print will look on the wall even before you order. And there’s no advanced equipment required here – all you need are some Post-it notes and a tape measure!
Using the notes, just mark out the corners of a canvas-sized rectangle on the wall. Then step back, judge the size – and then keep making little adjustments until the size and position feel right.
If you have a stunning photo of your favorite view in a panoramic aspect ratio, nothing beats a canvas print for making a bold design statement. So just use our sizing tips – and a little bit of intuition – and your panoramic canvas can really transform your interior design!
